Sunday 24 September, 2006[ bishop @ 22:11 ] Sculpting and polishingThere hasn't been a lot of time since PyWeek to move the game much further on: just some spare hours in the first couple of days, and then some spare hours today. Still, we can now activate the Triangle, being careful to expose the treasure of the thieving hordes first; otherwise the vortex is unleashed on the player! And I haven't yet started on introducing the various naval powers whose mission it is to stop you definitively... Monday 11 September, 2006[ bishop @ 23:39 ] PostWeek update #1Well, after some renewed post-PyWeek efforts yesterday and tonight, the game is really coming along. You can extract the treasure from those thieving sea dogs by provoking the wrath of the Bermuda Triangle. It's a shame I can't post an updated screenshot, though. Perhaps another site will have to do for all that. Sunday 10 September, 2006[ bishop @ 00:49 ] DNFSadly, other activities intervened in the second half of PyWeek, making the completion of our game a very unlikely outcome. Perhaps the game should be finished off in the next week or so (the PostWeek challenge?), just to ensure that the effort that did go in isn't wasted. Wednesday 06 September, 2006[ bishop @ 16:20 ] Finding the time/energyI imagine that for a lot of contestants, some game ideas were already forming in various minds before the competition theme had been decided, with some flexibility being baked in just in case one's favourite theme didn't end up on top. In our case, I had an idea which would have worked quite well with my top two choices - a nautical theme which rides on the general favour bestowed on the previous PyWeek winner - and as luck would have it, my favourite theme ended up as the one chosen. So, how can the nautical theme be combined with "The Disappearing Act"? Well, as one other team have discovered (and the warlord and I are not "sharking" off you, whichever team you are!), anything nautical plus anything involving disappearance must suggest the Bermuda Triangle. Having the "sawn in half" theme would have provided a more amusing and more contrived nautical entry - it's a shame it didn't finish first. Perhaps that variation can be cooked up as a post-PyWeek release! Now, all I have to do is to find the time and energy to get this done. Perhaps the warlord will help me out... |
